The Plan
Cynthia, Kevin, Jason, and Janeane, and I were going to make a nice recreational dive at Carmel River Beach. The swell model was showing nearly flat conditions and everything looked great when we arrived after a nice breakfast at the Black Bear Diner.Scripps Swell Model  We geared up and planned to kick out for a maximum of 45 minutes and a total dive time of 90 minutes. The plan was for a maximum depth of 100 feet and to stay within minimum deco limits.

The Dive
Due to unforseen gear problems, Jason, Janeane, and Kevin were unable to make the dive. So they enjoyed a nice day on the beach while Cynthia and I dove. Cynthia led as we followed the rock/kelp/sand interface around the corner to Gibraltar. Once we go there, we kicked around for 30 minutes.  There were several ling cod, many kinds of rock fish, a cabezon, and even a pink abalone.  The water was somewhat milky but pretty much the same shade of blue as the swell model. We cruised back in along the same interface for a leisurely bottom contour deco.

The Deco
The deco was planned for 1 minute stops at 30', 20', and 10'. In reality, the deco was accomplished along the bottom on the kick back in. We arrived back at the beach and made an exit onto the steep beach.  Lunch was at Vivolo's Chowder House in Monterey.
