Dive Report - Shale Island

The Plan
After getting beat up on a ballbuster of a dive at Ballbuster, we retreated to the relative safety and calm of Shale Island. Jonathan's buddy was feeling pretty seasick so he decided to sit out the second dive. I was chumming the water pretty good all over the place...but I paid for the boat...I'm diving! So, after geting stable, we geared up and jumped in with the remainder of our gas. The plan was to make one slow circuit of the site, spending most of our time looking under the ledges and in the holes for nudis and octos.
The Dive
This dive was dark...well, it was night! The sunset from the boat was nice even with the seasickness, and the water was a little bit clearer. We descended into about 15' of visibility and 3-5' of surge. That made for an interesting night of looking under ledges without getting surged into them! I found what might have been a small octo, but it darted out of sight so fast, I'm still not sure. We slowly made our way around the whole of Shale Island (anti-clockwise) and burned our gas down to Min Gas as we reached the anchor line at the end of our first circuit. Nothing spectacular to report, just a fun night dive on a nice site.
The Deco
Once back at the anchor, we decided to make our way up. We stopped for one minute at 30' and two minutes at 20' and 10'. As we got on the boat, the moon rose over Monterey and was pretty darn incredible.
